In this optional ceremony I read the following as you hold hands. Insert proper name
for Bride or Groom.
Bride, please hold Groom’s hands palms up. These hands are his gift to you,
the hands of your best friend as he promises to love and cherish you for a lifetime.
These hands will work with yours to build your future, as you laugh, cry and share
intimate secrets and dreams. Hands that will someday feel the joy his child stir
within you and be so gentle as he holds your baby for the first time.
His hands will wipe tears of sorrow from your eyes; will comfort you in illness and
hold you when fear or grief engulfs your heart. These hands will tenderly raise your
face to see his eyes that are filled with overwhelming love and desire for you.
Groom take a long look, because this is thelast time you will have the upper hand.
Groom, please hold Bride’s hands palms up. These hands are her gift to you.
Hands of your best friend, smooth, young and carefree, holding yours as she
promises to love and cherish you for a lifetime of happiness. These are the hands
that will hold each child in tender love, soothing them through illness and hurt,
supporting and encouraging them along the way, knowing when it is time to let go;
hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times; the hands that
will comfort you when you are sick, or console you when you are grieving.
Hands that will hold you in joy each time she tells you that together you have
created a new life. These are the hands that will give you support to chase down
your dreams. And lastly, these are the hands that when aged will still be reaching
for you, still giving you the same tenderness with just a touch.
Please hold hands together.
May your hands be blessed, may they always be held by one another. May they have
the strength to hold on during life’s storms. May they remain tender and gentle as
they nurture each other in wondrous love. May these hands continue building a
relationship, rich in caring, and devotion. May you see your four hands to heal,
protect, shelter, and guide. Back
