Help for the
Blues

The blues can affect your marriage as well as your
quality of life; feeling low can cause you and
your spouse to grow apart. Though much research has
been done on depression, its causes and cures
are unclear. We know depression can be caused by
trauma like divorce or abuse; and disappointment,
low self esteem, and body changes are other causes.
Clinical depression differs from feeling blue;
if you feel you suffer from severe depression seek
professional help, if you struggle with the blues
here are a few tips to help you get on track to
happier days.
Find a friend. Conversation with a
friend brings new perspective and hope to everyday
life as it breaks your routine. Make sure they
are safe and confidential. Share your
feeling and let them know you just need an ear.
Good times. Make a list of the good things
in your life and repeat it often. Find that place
of being grateful in your heart until you feel it.
Positive Thoughts Think of the positive
aspects of you and your life, focus on them, and get
a friend to affirm you.
Do Something Break your routine, go shopping
with a limited amount of money, sightsee, or help
someone. Volunteer once a week at a hospital
or other facility.
Find Art Find the art form that makes you
feel better, for me it is music. If you like movies,
fine art, dancing, attend a few times a month. If
you enjoy music, play it often.
Stop the Thought The second a blue feeling or
thought hits you, reject it and replace it with a
better thought. Exercise. Light exercise like walking a few times a week
can help you feel better and change your body
chemistry.
Eat well. A healthy diet contributes to
feeling better about yourself and good food provides
the good stuff your body needs.
Sleep well. Get all the sleep you need and
try to be regular on bed and wake times.
If feeling low lingers consider help.

better feeling about your life. Get your spouse to
