Divorce Busting
by Michelle Weiner Davis in paperback, 256 pages
published 1993 Simon & Schuster
Nuts and Bolts, Practical, Step by Step. These
terms
describe Michelle Weiner's bestseller. Breaking away from the usual
approach – telling you what is wrong with you
marriage, you already know that – Michelle gives you
practical steps that change you and thereby
your marriage.
Davis relies on what is called
Solution-Oriented Brief Therapy; it deals
with the future more than the past. Hence, the
practical tips to change your present and future
rather than deal with bygone issues. Don’t worry this is not
a book that dives too deeply into theory, though
some is present to give you a springboard for her
technique.
While I do believe that past wounds deeply
affect our present, I also embrace the book’s
concept of changing marriage by changing habits.
Davis offers a bag full of tools to kick start your
marriage, change habits, and reach goals. If your
marriage is shaky and you feel helplessly alone,
then check out this book. It especially aims at
the isolated spouse whose mate refuses to get help or
acknowledge a problem.
The book is written in three parts and uses
life examples to drive home its points.
Some coaching camps focus on problems,
others focus on solutions. We embrace both models
and recommend this book as solution based for the
marriage needing practical steps to build a better
relationship. Purchase by clicking:
